Kinetrex Energy receives "Alternative Fuel Leader" award

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The Greater Indiana Clean Cities Coalition (Greater Indiana) presented Kinetrex Energy with its 2020 “Alternative Fuel Leader” award for the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in its fleet and its new Indy High BTU plant which produces renewable natural gas (RNG).

Each year, the Greater Indiana Clean Cities Coalition recognizes outstanding contributions to advancing the Coalition’s mission. Greater Indiana’s stakeholders have worked to fulfill the advancement of alternative, domestic fueled transportation including energy efficient technologies across all sectors in Indiana.

“We are extremely proud that Kintrex Energy was recognized by Greater Indiana Clean Cities Coalition as an Alternative Fuel Leader,” said Casey Holsapple, General Counsel and VP of Governmental Affairs for Kinetrex Energy. ”The Indy High BTU is a locally developed project that will reduce as much greenhouse gas emission as removing 19,000 passenger vehicles from road.”

Kinetrex Energy delivers LNG to its customers using LNG-powered Class 8 trucks. Today’s LNG engines, which are manufactured by Indiana-based Cummins Westport, reduce NOx emissions by 90%. LNG also reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 20% versus the cleanest diesel engine.

The Indy High BTU plant at the Indianapolis South Side Landfill converts landfill methane gas into approximately 8 million gallons of pipeline-quality RNG each year. This RNG will be converted to renewable liquefied natural gas (RLNG) in Kinetrex’s LNG plants in Indianapolis then used to fuel class 8 trucks. RLNG reduces greenhouse gas air emissions, develops a local renewable resource and lowers fuel costs.
